Speedbrakes beyond Flight detent on B737NG

Hello,
I inadvertantly pulled the speedbrake lever beyond flight detent on my last flight and immediately recognized the promised increased buffeting according to the FOM. I always thougt it is only prohibited to pull it beyond flight detent in case of an ground spoiler SOV failure.
Where is the increased buffeting coming from? Do the flight spoilers deploy more if beyond flight detent?
Brgds. Walter
