320 vs 340 weight/Vls calculation

Hi all, Converted onto the 340 a while back and was surprised to see notes in FCOM3 warning to be careful when inserting the ZFWCG/ZFW in the Init B as it affects the Vls & Characteristic speeds on the PFD. Just done a sim and sure enough, if you change the GW in the Fuel Pred page they do all change!
On the 320 Vls & characteristic speeds on the pfd were heralded as being independent of pilot entries. As I understand it the AOA was sensed and the FAC did the calculations to determine the ACTUAL a/c weight, rather than a made up one using laughable charter weights!
So, why the difference?

Maybe 340 is big enough for CG to make an actual difference in speeds rather than a theoretical one?
