get in touch with 747 Cargo pilots.

Hey ! as you might notice iam new here. Iam really intrested in cargo flying and such might wanna become a cargo pilot in the future. Iam quite intrested in cargo operations. Would be really cool if i could get in touch with some 744F pilots if possible. Would like to ask some general questions about flying it and such. my email if [email protected] so please feel free to email me.

I was told to use this forum. I hope to get some answears.

Most of my questions are FMC/FMS based. like what Cost Index certain cargo companies use on the 744F and route information if possible.

Kind regards:Alexander

Your best bet is to read the forums, since many of your potential questions have likely been discussed quite a bit in the past. The Cost Index discussion is certainly one of these.

Hi ! thank you for your response did a search as you adviced me to do. Came up with 1 topic by entering "cost index" in the search form. Call me lazy or not but iam new here i really dont know how to search to get better results.

So sorry if iam a pain the butt or something i dont want to be just need some cost index information and/or flightplan information. Either here or in my private message box or last but not least email which i stated in my first post.

is it wrong by me to ask this? is it a sensitive question? If so i apologise.

Kind regards:Alexander

SMOC thank you ! found 1 thread that took up the subject. seams to be 50 to 100 used mostly. I figured it would be but now i have it comfirmed.

Now to my next question

Flightplans.

Route enterd in FMC would be nice if i could get in touch with some 744 F pilot maybe i could request either here or in email.

What do i mean by flightplans?

Here is an example;

-DEP EDDF
-DES WSSS
-FLIGHT NUMBER SIA325
-ARCTYP B744
-RFL F310
-SPEED N0499
-ROUTE N0499F310 NOMBO3L NOMBO Y161 MUN UL603 OBEDI UN739 GOTAR UY570 TEGRI UL605 NEKUL UT85 VENIN UT71 RIVOS UL851 CND UM747 TALAM/K0910F310 UM747 ROPUT/K0909F330 UM747 SOBLO/K0911F330 B143 VEKAT/N0492F330 UM747 LUSAL UB702 DUKAN/K0908F330 B449 RJ A240 AFGAN UV838 RANAH/N0492F330 L750 ZB/N0495F350 G202N BI DCT MURLI DCT TIGER G452E DPN/M085F350 R460E LLK/N0500F350 R460 BBN/N0498F370 R460 CEA/M086F370 L507 BGO/N0498F370 B463 VKB/M085F370 M751 PK B469 VMR DCT
-----------------------------------------------------------------

So if i could get in touch with some 744F pilots as stated and request it would be very nice .

Cheers !

Kind regards:Alexander

Just a hint, Alexander: The cargo bird isn't flown any different than the pax bird, and the flight plan isn't any different either.

Your obsession with the "cost-index" is unnecessary. It's only a guide. I can set 80, or I can set 120, or whatever... The reality is that on most routes Mach Number is maintained; so if the FMS calls for "optimum" altitude to be FL334 and M.856, it's inconsequential...because you can't fly at FL334, and maybe you're stuck at FL 280 for 2 hours before you can climb up to FL330...it's real world stuff. Maybe ATC wants you to maintain fixed Mach for spacing...so you can't follow the FMS "optimum" parameters. When you cross the pond you're also flying fixed Mach, probably M.86...not what the FMS says!

And when you get to the end of the rainbow with the approbriate STAR programmed into your FMS, then ATC always has different plans for you, especially at busy airports with traffic saturation...Can't descent when FMS calls for "optimum" descent point, or must descent early...screws up your "optimum" profile. Maybe ATC has you down to 11,000 feet 50 miles out going into Newark and has you vectored all over the place at low altitude, maybe even has you slowed down where you have to select flaps earlier than planned....now all your FMS "cost index" is already blown to bits...and when you go into Heathrow at peak arrival times...bingo...you're into a holding pattern...that's why the setting of a "cost index" is altogether overrated in the real world. As a prospective dispatcher you would be well to do to sit in the cockpit and get a dose of the real world to balance your theoretical studies of flight planning.
