B737-300 Cdu Legs Page

CDU LEGS PAGE
With reference to the leg direction on the waypoint line, the OPS manual states that courses are displayed in magnetic (xxxdeg) OR true (xxxdeg T).

I have two questions:
1. Under what circumstances is the heading displayed as true?
2. Why would it be desirable to have this displayed as true?

Answers on a postcard....................

True is usually used in remote/oceanic areas. Why? I guess its because some of these areas are vast and the magnetic variation across them can change rapidly. Keeping your nav gear in true just keeps it simpler ...... as long as everbody around you is doing the same. North Atlantic is a frequently used and well documented example.

You must have a Mag/true selector switch somwhere in the cockpit?
