A380 question

Hi - quick question:

Why is it that this initial Mk of the A380 is shorter than current aircraft models such as the 773 and the A346? OK - it's easier to stretch a plane as opposed to shrinking it a la the A318, but why not just start off with something a little longer in the first place [and to keep Tim Clark and co happy] ?

It's pretty noticeable in this picture - see link

When the A380 was at the DXB last week, it really doesn't look that big an aircraft at the moment, was expecting much larger!

Cheers

Think about how much the thing weighs!

I'm sure Airbus being Airbus, designed it to the absolute safe limit - any stretched versions may need a complete redesign of the wing.

Regarding the photo link - there's some element of perspective that doesn't do the size justice. Reminds me of the Father Ted scene (these cows are small, those ones are far away).

It's very wide aswell don't forget.
