Boeing unveils nose section of new 787
Spirit AeroSystems and Boeing unveiled the first all-composite demonstration nose section for the 787.
The 787 nose has two windows per side compared to three on the rest of Boeing's jetliners. The windows are one and a half times as big as those on the 777.

Looks good...seems as if the good looks from the early artists impressions haven't totally disappeared...
Will be very interesting to see how the composites approach develops. Maybe Discovery Wings will enlighten us!

Too much difference, check Boeing specs and predicted performance to see...
And seat and wait to see announcements related to barrel tests...this design is too advanced to go through (cert authorities approval) without that test

From the photo it looks like pilot vision will be severely retricted aft of abeam the pilots. Looks like the wing leading edges and even the wing tips will be obscured.
Let's hope this is not the case and the final product released by Boeings Flight Test dept will implement windows that will do the job required of them for both air and ground operations.

Perhaps the crew will be sat a lot further forward than was previously the case, thanks to some innovations in the cockpit layout? Otherwise, yes, it looks as though they will be blind trying to look over their shoulders. Also, the visibility in turns looks as though it will not win any prizes.

Folks,
The 787 has a four piece window set for the cockpit, rather than 6 previously...the crew should be sitting well forward, with two massive side windows to look through!!

A loss of one window on each side equals weight saving, reduced systems complexity, reduced manufacturing and maintenance cost.
A loss of Pilot Compartment View [FAR 25.773 (a)(1)] dressed up as an “improvement”?

Got an email from Boeing this morning showing pictures of the new flightdeck.
Absolutely stunning. Looks like something from Star Trek.
Check it out at www.newairplane.com

It really depends on intended usage. What I mean is it goes on case by case basis.
What you will come up might be a "thicker" skin (hard to define it this way in case of composites) but significantly lighter and stronger.
Skin thickness starts being a completely different set of problems when you look composite structure since everything is integral.
