Modern FCS/FPV (EG:Typhoon)

Following on from another thread, I wonder if any 'tecchies'/tps could expand a little on FPVectors? I am used to the 'old fashioned' ones but wonder if the new generation have the ability to 'know' where the ground is (using GPWS?) and provide predictive survival info to a pilot? In 'the old days' one waited as the FPV moved up the brown stuff in the windscreen until it showed 'above the horizon' before you KNEW things were ok. To know that the existing rate of change in FPV will clear the ground by xxx' is a pretty useful piece of knowledge to have.
