Model numbers

Question Model numbers

I hope anyone can help me.

Looking at the model numbers of aircraft. I know, for example, what the -400 in 747-400 means, but what about the other numbers, as in 747-432. It is those last two numbers I just don't know about.

Anyone...?

They are customer ID numbers, assigned by Boeing.
