Post AA finds delamination on A300 tail.

AA and the FAA together with Airbus has found delamination next to one of the six nuts that conects the tail to the fuselage of one of their A300's that was involved in an inflight upset in 1997. A new ultrasound method was used to find the fault.. .Airbus maintains that the tail is stil "servicable" but AA has decided not to reinstall the tail on that aircraft. The FAA is considering issueing an A.D. for all A300/A310 operators to reinspect their tails using this new ultrasound method. . .This certainly fuels the theory that the tail on 587 had a pre existing condition that was exasperated by amplified rudder inputs.
