Question B737NG Minimum speed reversion

Today during climb the following happened that surpised me.

(B737-800)
While climbing in V/S ( AP/AT engaged ) the speed started to decrease because the AT was already commanding MAX CLB N1 and the selected V/S was apparently to high. But, as speed dropped more than 15 kts below MCP selected speed I expected the AP to revert to LVL CHG. As I've seen happening numerous times on the -300.

That didn't happen and it probably would have decelerated right into the yellow band without intervention.

The AOM does talk about Minimum Speed reversion (But not about Performance limit reversion !!).

So, is this normal or some kind of software fault?

Any comments?
