Post LBA / EGNM displaced thresholds

I'd be grateful if someone would be kind enough to provide the definitive answer as to why the huge displaced thresholds are in place on 14/32 at LBA? On 14 I believe it to be a consequence of the high ground on the approach which results in a g/s of 3.5 degrees. On 32 though, with a standard 3 degree g/s and no obstacles on the approach, why the 300m+ displacement?

The follow up question is of course, what can be done to reduce them and in turn improve the LDA...IMHO an absolute must for 32 if the airport is ever going to offer genuine all weather capability.
