Have You Done The Fastest Circuit?
How quickly have you got your a/c round the circuit to land back, and why?
For starters: Fokker 50, 24 seconds in the sim....Trng Capt, UK Airline, just for the hell of it. How are the cats Kevin? Rgds. |
Given the takeoff roll in said aircraft took 17 seconds (and thats empty)I do not believe that you bull !!!!ters from Blighty got that aircraft around the corner in 6 seconds!
You are a dreamer! If you had said 1 min and 24 seconds I may have believed you. [This message has been edited by Solomon Grundy (edited 16 February 2001).] |
We tried this in a 747-400 sim last month. Apparently the record is 1 min 34 secs from brake release to a full stop. We couldn't get it to less than 1.55 and that was at light weight, 60 degree bank at 100 feet all the way round, touching down at about the same place we rotated at. Need a long R/W. We used LHR. Might be fun to see someone do it for real!!!!
|
Saw a Capt ( a PPRUNE moderator!) do a circuit in 1 min 15 seconds in a 737-300... it would have been a few seconds faster if the radar dish hadn't been in the way!

60 seconds in a Tristar -100 sim
|
A miserable 2 min 15 in a 737-400 sim, but not bad considering it was only my third attempt at flying the thing. Sim was set at Liverpool, instructor managed it in 1 min 35. I'm sure I'd be much faster now, just lemme have another go.
BTW have seen a triple axis microlight take off in stong headwind, go straight up to 300', change his mind and land on the same runway closer to the threshold than he left the ground. |
Similar to fastest cct: A/field to A/field
LHR to Farnborough, for real, HS 125 5 mins 25 secs. T/off to Ldg. |
Any crabs (RAF) out there know the current record for Akrotiri? There is an unofficial record kept, and the Lightnings held it when my father arrived with 35 sqn in 1968 and they and 9 sqn competed to see how far down it could be brought in Vulcans, but he can't remember the times they used to get.

Don't know about all this sim stuff but I've seen it done in a Katana in 35 seconds, wheels off to wheels on.

Bristol RW27 to Cardiff RW30 - 3mins 48secs in 737-300
|
Kagi PNG to Efogi PNG in 1 minute even, in almost fully loaded BN2. Timed from start of take-off roll to complete stop. You can walk between the two places ... in 2 days.

This thread brought back memories :)
707 sim at LHR, we used to "race" from LGW to LHR, with the only "rules" being, NO overspeeding the airframe! Can't remember whether it was the 707 with Conways or the one with P&Ws, but one of them allowed the buckets to be deployed over the threshold, without WOW - sure dumped airspeed fast! The 737 was popular at "Take-off 28R, tuck the left wingtip in the turf, and land on 10R (that sim had "full" visual too!). Any of the SAA crews that we were training at the time remember the "crazy flight sim maintenance man" who demonstrated it?!? Can't remember the timings now, but it was fun - if there's anyone from Cranebank would arrange me a visit (and if those sims are still going!!) I'd be please to demonstrate next time I'm through LHR! BTW - we also spent some of our shifts fixing the sims ;) ;) --------------------- http://www.l39.com/_borders/Ejection_seat.gif Martin Baker - the only way to fly! |
Tristar-500. Brize(r/w 26)-Fairford(r/w 27). 4mins. Positioning for RIAT.
|
Fastest circuit I saw was a twin crunchy some years back. After departure pilot asked me in the tower what day it was, hearing my reply , elected to land again. Didn`t time it, but it was quick! Luckily I got the day right!

Was shown an attempt record circuit for LHR in the 747 classic sim at Cranebank. The BA training Captain thought he was on for the record when he dug in the wingtip and augered in. Filled me with confidence.!!!!!!

Gonzo !
Nice to hear "my" old sim is still running! - They still got 2? or only one of them? And they're still flying them like we used to :) ------------------ What goes around . . . . . often lands better! |
Both of the times I've been there over the past 3 years I only saw one.
Last time I went, though, was in March 99 Gonzo |
I've done Bigginhill 21 - Redhill 26 in 3 mins in an Arrow, I dont know why I bothered to retract the gear!
|
You can retract the gear in an Arrow ? ;) ;)
