Oh wow.... just can't wait to see it!

AlphaWhiskyRomeo 29th November 2005 18:40

Looks like I'm getting a tour of the aircraft towards the end of the week.

Should be awesome.

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 29th November 2005 19:01

Presumably a bus tour??!!

AlphaWhiskyRomeo 29th November 2005 19:27

Nope. I think it is a walk around (and in).

ALLDAYDELI 29th November 2005 19:54

what was the Polet one doing there today? Whos booking all of these aircraft? I saw a convoy of RH Freight articulated trucks offloading pallet loads of cargo. Must be some big moves..

Rollingthunder 29th November 2005 22:11

Saw it at Abbotsford a few years ago and it did a demontration flight. Quite amazing what such a large aircraft could do.

Was @ EMA today. Apparently it's being used to completely re-stock some warehouse in Leicester that was raised to the ground at some point.

Very impressive close-up.

VP8 30th November 2005 06:35

Cargo was 110tonnes of textiles into EMA outbound is 100tonnes of charity shoeboxes (approx 70,000) for Operation Christmas Child......A lot of the 124 flights are bring electronics (playstaions etc) from the Far East for the Christmas rush!! :ok:

Hopefully will be up there to look at the beasty on Friday myself :E

Possibly this one?

Warehouse Fire from the BBC

Paul Wilson 30th November 2005 09:39

Primark said on Radio 5 Live last week, that they were chartering planes to bring in stock, so thats the one. Not exectly a very efficient way of moving the stock, but a lot better than having empty shelves for Christmas

williamp 30th November 2005 15:15

The NEMA Cargo website has a link here, with some photos. Its a big bu**er!

Glad the aeropark is opening early, but what if the aircraft takes off the wrong way? I dont want to see it start to take-off, I want to see it take-off and go over my head!

colmac747 30th November 2005 17:20

Monster!!

Popped up there today for a look - most impressive. I'm not one to be easily awe-struck but it was definately an imposing site! Inside it didn't seem too much bigger than the AN124 but outside was a completely different story.

The fire engines were still there when I visited earlier, any reason behind this, do they have to be there permanently?

Quite a lot of activity around with people ferrying in and out. Also, a little OT, there was a BA757 (I believe) doing engine tests down there...

AlphaWhiskyRomeo 1st December 2005 18:53

The airline have invited people to wander round the the aircraft today and tomorrow I believe.

And someone told me there was a press call tomorrow morning before loaidng commences early pm for the Sat departure.

Thanks to everyone on here for all the info. We went up and saw it today. Couldn't find a way in past all the security so viewed it from the far side of the airfield in the tipping rain! Totally brilliant.. Just hope we can see it fly sometime..

BOAC 2nd December 2005 20:13

Broke cloud at around 500' on R09 this morning - and thought I was at the wrong airfield! Boy is it big!!:ok: Most impressive. Was that an Ilyushin 86 behind it? Only had time for a brief glimpse.

UPSAirOps 3rd December 2005 06:12

Mr Angry from Purley - hid pretty much any sign that I could that I was from "the opposition".

:p

Thanks for the info regarding the BA a/c.

williamp 3rd December 2005 08:09

Just come back from watching it take-off (was standing in Pegasus Park, so saw it starting to move).

Very big, very impressive and....very quiet. The last bit was very surprising.

Nice to have seen it, though. Hopefully someoen will have got a picture of it going over their heads
