Boeing 787 - Final Design

Not sure if these have been seen here yet.

Boeing have finalised the design for the 787 Dreamliner, and it looks a little different from previously. Fatter, stumpier and a more conventional looking tail.

So, is the 787-3 a shorthaul version with winglets, while the -8/9 versions are longhaul with swept wingtips?

Overall, looks remarkably like an airplane. Nice paint job though.

I take it that the front view is of the 787-8. I’m a bit surprised that the 787-9 doesn't have winglets and the winglets on the 787-3 are not the curved style like the 787-8.

I know what you mean about it being fatter!

The upright winglets are just an option to keep the wingspan down at certain airports where parking is a problem.

Looks quite nice :)

Its lapping up the orders. AC announced and AI a signature away....seems more and more evident that Airbus' POS A350 needs re-evaluation, unless EK orders it soon then its mission accomplished for Airbus.

Looks more like a 767 everyday

I'm just waiting for the howls of outrage from the spotter community who'll no doubt be protesting that Boeing has sold its soul by trading the "cool" shark design for, God forbid, an economical aircraft that will appeal to airlines. :E

So what? If thats the shape that performs the best then thats the shape they should use. Looks mean nothing, economics and performance are what counts

Bmused55: Why did Boeing get our hopes up then if all they are going to build is a composite 767 with new engines and new wings?

Bmused55 27th April 2005 19:46

That is so naive I'm not even gonna explain.
