A C130 J just left the Sculthorpe area and now approaching Mildenhall.,
|
Was taking the air west of Eye about an hour ago and a pair of F-35s (possibly more) flew over at maybe 15000' heading towards Lakenheath/Marham. Not on ADSB, but nicely visible underneath the altostratus or whatever it is. Looks like we will all have persistent rain shortly!

USAF C130T just passed overhead at 25000 ft heading SE (origin Reykjavik).
Looks like exiting UK west of Worthing. |

Would it not be based at Torrejon air base next door?
Looks like it has made the same return trip to Lakenheath a few times in recent weeks. |
Hornet Moth G-ADNE (Ariadne) northbound over Chippenham.

Well I never! The one-off Shield Xyla is showing up on ADSB in the Manningtree/Colchester area - looks like it has enjoyed a day out at Shuttleworth. Don't think I've ever seen it, not sure that it was always in a possession of a Permit to Fly in the 45 plus years I've been attending events where it might be seen...
|
I'd never even heard of a Shield Xlya before let alone seen one,had to look it up !! Nothing else of interest in East Anglia this afernoon. Brize Norton rec'd C17 ZJ138 and C130J ZH865 between 1550 @ 1555 this PM. so the RAF got a little work.
|
Isn't ZJ138 a Merlin, written off in Afghanistan 12 years ago ?
|
Probably my error !!!

Aussie P8 (ASY205) out of Sigonella flying around Malta

Just tracked a Turkish C130 into Mildenhall. C/S TUAF 412 reg.68-01609. It appears to have tracked directly across the Atlantic until it reached Newcastle where it turned S for Mildenhall. Would a C130 have the endurance for a trip like that ?? Edit just back tracked it to Goose Bay.
|
Just about the limit for a C-130H though I think the Turkish example is a C-130E, no idea if they have the same range. Probably favourable winds with alternates at Prestwick and somewhere similar had the tanks been emptier.
Still in Norfolk, watching F-35s at play; seemed to be doing formation breaks and rejoins. Also an Aztec and Chipmunk, rare sights at my usual stamping ground these days. No Ospreys, home tomorrow... |
The Chipmunk flew over our house. It was probably from Felthorpe. I think it landed at Northrepps. The Aztec was swanning around here too - perhaps carrying out some sort of survey. What a lovely sound it made.
|
I was at the Blickling Hall NT Estate - Chippy gave us a wing dip which I like to think was a salute but more likely to get a better look at the house and its grounds. Think the fighters were F-35s, at perhaps 15000 they weren't much more than dots. Not visible on ADSB.
Edit: just noticed my train ticket this afternoon takes me back to London via Ely and Cambridge :) (assumed it would be Norwich/Liverpool Street), be nice to see a movement or two when I am in the vicinity of Lakenheath and Mildenhall! Edit 2: the boys are busy above the clag this morning! Breakfast has been enjoyed against a background symphony of the sound of freedom! |
C130 J 09-5713 excercising between Sculthorpe and the Wash, earlier there were 3 F15s in the area.
|
3 KC135 tankers and 1 voyager ZZ333 + a C130J and 2 Eurofighters very busy over East Anglia this afternoon.
