Cessna 195 G-BSPK came past Chez Tread an hour ago (think it must be a Biggin resident) and despite a nice little orbit almost overhead I didn't get to hear the Shaky Jake thanks to bloody traffic on the road outside - as soon as it was gone, the road was clear...

I hear you sir :} Too many times, just at that moment when something interesting goes by kids, dogs, builders, cars, (sometimes all at once) pipe up to ruin the acoustic moment.....

This time I heard the radial, didn't see the culprit! G-TSIX. Can you guess the type?

(No, it wasn't a Triumph!)

treadigraph 5th Sep 2021 14:03

...and an Apache as in gunship - fairly unusual over Purley, particularly on a Sunday!

Blimey, I can see the Red Arrows performing on ADSB at Bournemouth! Think that's a first for me!

Formation of 4 x Extra 300 (?) just buzzing overhead towards Oxford way...
apparently The Blades team.

Noticed an Aztec in the Shoreham vicinity, nipped over to their webcam to watch it land. G-BSVP, one of the early out of sequence registrations I recall from 40+ years ago. Someone is doing a loud run up just out of shot, Navajo or something by the sound of it.

Late go around by a DA-40!

Was indeed a Navajo running up, G-FCSL, presumably off somewhere for a day's Navaid checking.

Edit: and G-FCSL just zotted over here on way back to Shoreham - he's been doing some work at London City!

Distinctive and unusual sound of a small radial yesterday evening showed up on FR24 as a Stinson Reliant heading SW just south of Frome. I could see it in silhouette but not distinguish it very clearly. Nice noise to hear on a pleasant evening and quite rare I guess as really only things like DHC Beavers and the Stimsons had radials in relatively small aircraft as well as the aforementioned Cessna .

treadigraph 6th Sep 2021 14:59

Typhoon seems to have been doing a display at Beachy Head?

Not forgetting a Stearman or two that have been in the news recently.

Musket90 6th Sep 2021 18:06

The Beachy Head Typhoon was accompanied by a C208 Caravan which appeared to be filming it.

Plenty of Yaks and Sukhois about in the UK, several Staggerwings and Wacos, even the odd Spartan Executive and Rearwin. I'd love to see that beautiful Monocoupe back here again. Various radial UK designs around as well, indeed one of fellow PPRuNers has one that he promises to get flying again soon!

Thanks Musket!

Strange (to me, anyway!) aircraft circling over Kingston-upon-Thames for about an hour late this afternoon. Nothing showing on either FR24 or ADS-B, and frustratingly no binos to hand either, particularly as the sky was clear. Height could have been around 10k feet - difficult to tell without knowing type and therefore size. Using Mk1 eyeball it appeared to be conventional layout but with either pods or engines on the end of the wingtips. The oddest thing was the noise. Not the usual prop noise one expects from the survey planes we occasionally get, but more a jet noise but without any of the higher frequencies - my first reaction was a flying hand drier! Anyone any ideas?!

treadigraph 7th Sep 2021 05:23

Very likely a bit of visual deception, there is a turbine Islander - which does make a bit of an odd noise - often busy orbiting over London at about 8000', also several Cessna 406s. Think I briefly saw a 406 over Croydon yesterday lunchtime but it could have been the Islander. They don't usually show up on ADSB.

Cheers Dave, they seem to like Jersey and vv. No Saab 105?

DaveReidUK 7th Sep 2021 13:17

No Saab 105 listed: 2021 Display Timetable – Jersey International Air Display (jerseyairdisplay.org.uk)

It's a couple of years since I last noted either the 105 or J29 on Mode S

treadigraph 7th Sep 2021 13:21

I'd forgotten the J29!

Interesting display line up - RR Mustang ? I assume the Boomerang is the Belgian aircraft which I think is based around a T-6 with as many Boomerang bits as possible. Sort of full circle as the T-6 begat the Wirraway begat the Boomerang! Like to see it...
