DC3 G-AMPY from Coventry to DSA this morning then did a few circuits over us. When I first heard it, reminded me of the Air Atlantique that used to visit RAF Finningly regularly & doing pleasure flights at the annual air shows.

Yesterday rather than today but we were overflown in central York by two F15s out of Lakenheath (according to FR24) and heading north-west, and we had a leisurely visit from a Spitfire on Sunday afternoon.

Very likely a bit of visual deception, there is a turbine Islander - which does make a bit of an odd noise - often busy orbiting over London at about 8000', also several Cessna 406s. Think I briefly saw a 406 over Croydon yesterday lunchtime but it could have been the Islander. They don't usually show up on ADSB.

At certain times the Defender has made those unusual sounds in my experience, perhaps it's due to atmospherics. That said, you sound like you know your types, so perhaps it's a new one, who knows !?

. This a/c was missing both that and any compressor/turbine whine - really just quite a soft jet exhaust sound. I shall keep looking!

Blimey, just noticed the two seat Hurricane on ADSB operating out of Biggin. Be nice to see it in its new guise...
|
A B-17 (I think) (in real life) probably from Biggin.
|
An F15 from Lakenheath, a C17 from out of Europe and a PA 28 from Norwich airport. All within ten minutes!
Not only that, but with aclearing blue sky I could actually see them this time! |
Oooh yeah, B-17 has been to Jersey and he's heading this way!
Bugger he turned due north and flew west of here up over central London - could hear a vague rumble from the Cyclones... |
On 8th September a Spitfire two-seater doing a half Cuban 8 south abeam York.

My first post on here. I was sitting outside my gliding club having a beer after a couple of hours mowing grass, when I saw what looked like a four-jet contrail heading towards me from the southwest.
I assumed it might be a 747 freighter although that would be an unusual route around here. Normally I see them heading to or from Anchorage. FR24 told me it was a KC135R at 37000’, presumably heading across the pond. interestingly the departure airfield was shown as KGEG, Spokane International. I think it is much more likely it came from Fairchild AFB, which is a few miles to the west. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....4f4511949.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d5b8c9124.jpeg If it is a trans-Atlantic flight, I estimate it will be over the UK sometime between 0800 and 0830 BST. I'll be asleep. It would be interesting to see if anyone can pick it up. |
Good call - it's currently just west of Glasgow, doubtless bound for Mildenhall.
Edit: did indeed land there a few minutes ago. |
As I was being shown around the new office in Prague we went up to the roof terrace and saw D-LZNT, the Zepplin gliding overhead.
Looks like it spent the night here too. |
Any idea what this is ? Currently over Norfolk - looks to have originated from Lakenheath........

F-15 having fun ?
|
I would think so Dave. Thank You.

Thanks Dave. I’m pleased to see my Dead Reckoning is still up to snuff! :)
Can someone remind me of the site that has more military data than FR24 usually has? |
India - Freedar?

That sounds like the BN-2T does to me at times... I was quite surprised when I first heard it, wonder if the exhaust or even the prop has been modified to reduce the noise footprint. Nothing at all like the old shake, rattle and roll piston BN-2s of course!
