Plane Hit By Bus Shelter

Plane hit by bus shelter during storm at Edinburgh Airport, see:

BBC News - Plane hit by bus shelter during storm at Edinburgh Airport

Insurance claim might be interesting!!

I like the sentence in the article "Edinburgh Airport said it was working with Jet2 to avoid a repeat of the incident".

Bet they are :ok: Part of their revised SMS will no doubt be to ensure the structural integrity of all bus shelters after to a strong wind warning...

Anyone know whether the flying shelter was landside and hopped the fence or whether it was an airside structure?

brakedwell 4th Jan 2012 14:25

It's a good job a bus didn't follow it

KiloMikePapa 4th Jan 2012 14:43

Joke alert

It wasn't an "Air"bus shelter by any chance ;) ? It sure did not fit the B737 it landed on...

cats_five 4th Jan 2012 17:55

I didn't know that Jet2 own bus shelters...

Hotel Tango 4th Jan 2012 17:57

Stand by for knee jerk reaction from the CAA mandating that all bus stop shelters near airports be equipped with TCAS.

PAXboy 4th Jan 2012 19:33

So ... "Edinburgh Airport said it was working with Jet2 to avoid a repeat of the incident". but NOT working with any of their other carriers?? How many spare bus shelters have they got on hand?? :} That high wind is also going to blow this into JetBlast.

TURIN 4th Jan 2012 19:48

So what did the other one hit?

You know what it's like.

You wait for ages for one and then two come along together. :}

maxred 4th Jan 2012 19:54

Bit of gaffer tape, some T-Cut, quick dust and away we go:sad:

Was blowy mind you:eek:

Reassuring to read that the Airport "have now launched an investigation".

The investigator will need to be particularly sharp to get to the bottom of this mystery.

brakedwell 4th Jan 2012 20:26

I am sure the investigator will be just the ticket :p

Checkboard 4th Jan 2012 20:35

Always the way - you wait forever for a bus shelter to come by, and then half of one comes all at once!

Too Few Stripes 4th Jan 2012 20:38

I just hope with all that rain the bus shelter didn't have more than 100ml of water on it when it 'went airside' !

stuckgear 4th Jan 2012 20:43

Anyone any ideas what the max certified crosswind componant is for a bus shelter ?

Flightmech 4th Jan 2012 20:48

I hope the BAA at Edinburgh have "conducted" the investigation in the correct manner:)

west lakes 4th Jan 2012 20:53

Bus shelter or smoking shelter but it wouldn't be PC to admit the latter :uhoh:

.... or that they're all painted dayglo before they go airside.

Sorry. I'll get my Hi-Viz jacket!

Ah yes, they launched the Inspector on the second 99 MPH gust and he made a reasonable altitude, although the landing could have been better ...

Avitor 4th Jan 2012 23:51

This would never have happened if the aircraft hadn't parked there! :8

treadigraph 5th Jan 2012 06:40

Ah yes, they launched the Inspector
"I'll get you, Butler!"
