TAROM B733-tail strike
 
The plane took off from Otopeni Bucharest (OTP/OMDB) at 9.10 (local time). They had a tail strike which was described by the company as a "minor incident".
They returned to field, landing 09.45 (local time). The plane was grounded for investigations. Pax were shifted to another plane and took off 2 hours later heading to Madrid, their destination.

The plane involved in the incident is YR-BGD (B737-38J, delivered to Tarom to 1994).

no other details available about the incident at this stage.

Same way as in the -500, get weight/balance wrong, mistrim it, wrong V-speeds and pull up real fast..

Also meteorological phenomenon could be involved :cool:

Or like one captain told me, when he rotated his seat was not fully locked and it slid back while he still held on to the control wheel, resulted in a tailstrike also on a -300:uhoh:

Yes i,ve seen a UK registered -300 after a tail strike.

On a 300, the clue is a very strangely shaped (and short) aft drain pipe:8

the pilots set speeds of zero fuel weight instead of take off weight.as I know it was a 15-20 kts difference which lead to rotate earlier as it could be done.

Once again...Basic Airmanship...

Forget the new gen stuff, but the "real" Captain will know when the A/C is ready to fly...or not...

Weight is wrong??? No prob...abort or give it a few more seconds...

Data received from the gate or Ops COULD be wrong...A crew should get their first clue when the breakaway (From the Gate or Ramp) is more or less than normal...Thus the results will follow...

I got to know what happened.

ZFW put in the computer instead of TOW.
The result was a Vspeed of 20 nods less than necesasry.
Cabin crew at the back of the plane heard a noise and reported a smokey smell. They called the pilots who didnt really know what happened but decided to go back, as they also felt that somehting was not right during rotation. The initial assumption of the crew was that a tyre burst during take off.
No emergency declared.
capitan very experienced with many many hours under his belt.
