One -250 model ex-DAL, and one -100 model ex-TWA, both owned/operated by Air Universal.

At the completion of a Libyan Arab Airlines lease contract early 2006, both aircraft ferried to THR for storage. Both aircraft require heavy checks prior to return to service...which is not at all likely.

NB.
During the one year lease to LAA, both aircraft had a dispatch rate of 100%, much to the surprise of LAA management, who were having their own problems at the time with two A300-600 parked most of the time due mx issues.

This program was generally called...'TriStars to the rescue due AOG Airbii.'

Dear God, how long have you been flying those things?
Thirty one years (16,000 hours), all in Command.
Awhile to go, too.:ok:

wings folded 18th Apr 2010 12:02

Were you in command for your first hour on type? Just curious.

Were you in command for your first hour on type?
Under line training, and listed as in command.
In fact, never anything other than in command on any jet transport.

Congrats on your last post number = 7447.
BTW what was the story about Air Canada 1011's "out of breath" on the trans atlantic runs in the past?

TOWTEAMBASE 18th Apr 2010 19:30

Anyone kow the backround of the Tristar parked up at Stansted all these years. Looks like shes had at least a couple of different reg painted on her. Did she belong to Classic Airways at any point

Newforest2 18th Apr 2010 20:41

Not Classic Air. Try BA, Caledonian and Air Ops. Last used as a tug and jetway training vehicle. (G-IOIT, c/n 1145)

Rgretfully she was one of ours that the BAA held after Air Ops went to the wall - They were good and reliable birds-we had 7 of them operating

No idea, whatsoever.
More info needed from your end.

Just a rumour/comment remembered form the late 70's when AC were operating Tristars to LHR, that they were close to max range, and RR engines were hot on arrival.

TOWTEAMBASE 19th Apr 2010 20:49

just googled G-IOIT, and she WAS classic airways according to the link i found. She had a sister ship that was scrapped on sight, but this one was kept for training purposes. Ive seen the RAF there too, practising recovery

Newforest2 19th Apr 2010 21:32

Are you sure?

I have the Classic Air plane as G-IOII, c/n 1118.;)

Lockheed converted four (4) of Air Canada's L-1011-1's to -100's early in 1977. The addtion of the center wing box fuel tank allowed for trans- Alantic operation with plenty of reserve.
