Denham
Going through Ruislip this afternoon I thought I saw some kind of business jet making an approach to Denham.
Do business jets regularly use Denham or was it going somewhere else entirely? It certainly didn't seem to be heading for Northolt. |
At Ruislip, Northolt would be south of you and Denham north. I very much doubt if a business jet would head for Denham, except in dire emergency. But, as always, I could be wrong...

I was at Denham in the 1970s and saw a Citation land on the grass (before the hard runway was built). I believe it was being demonstrated to United Biscuits who can't have been that impressed as they ended up buying another King Air (G-HLUB Hector Laing United Biscuits). Made an impression on me though! I now have about 3000 hours on Citations but have yet to land one on grass.

Have a look here: SBS Forum :: View topic - The Royal Squadron
Apparently a lot of activity at Northolt to/from Heathrow. Possibly you saw one of those? |
I vaguely recollect a 1980ish (?) story about a Learjet, an overly keen pilot, Denham, an undershoot, a hedgerow and some damage... Anyone recall? No, not the Spanish Lear that finished up on the A40 at Northolt.
|
I had enough trouble landing a Cessna 150 there as I recall.......................
|
I would say it was heading for Northolt, As I know that section of Chiltern Mainline can play tricks on you.
As the Line heads South and just before South Ruislip turns West. So the BZZ Jet Might have been heading South West for Northolt's 25, Being west of the tracks. Hopeing that made sense.:8 |
Thanks Malaysian, you may have cracked it, I didn't realise how far South the railway line went.
|
I'm totally confused - and I know that area pretty well. Guess it depends a) which way Dr Jekyll was heading, and b) which railway line he was on.
|
Can confirm that it has been a few years since the citations used to visit. It's possible if they're lightly loaded.
Can confirm (by default from the above!) that there was no biz jet at Denham yesterday. Did hear a PC12 call late afternoon (N12AG) - these are becoming more frequent visitors, I can think of 5 or 6 that visit on a reqular basis. |

You are correct I think the last time a Citation 550 operated into Denham was July 2004 unless anyone else has been operating them in there since. |
...and in the mid 1990s a VP- reg Citation II was quite a regular visitor.
|
I remember Gregorys Dakota there (showing my age)
Does a Dak need as much as a Citation? |

Jarvis123 You are correct from mid 96 until the last flight July 2004 it was great fun nearest you get to a carrier landing never did it at night!!! |
You made it look easy:ok: Only can remember seeing you go around the once!
|
32 sqdn seemed to be doing 'VIP' flights around london and surronding area, the 125's were overshooting Northolts runway and turning base at 1500' over denham, certanly not the normal routing. quite a nice sight from denham as they turned.

I learnt to fly at Denham - never seen anything larger than a PC-12 fly in there.
700m ish of runway would be pushing it a bit:hmm: Adam TrafficPilot |
I flew a Percival Pembroke in and out, during the '90s, and have also seen a DHC Caribou parked there some years ago.

700m ish of runway would be pushing it a bithttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/yeees.gif Why would you make such a sweeping statement? :hmm: Each individual flight had a perf calculation made for fuel requirements, payload, WAT, Brake energy, Accel Stop, V1, Vr, V2, TODR, LDR, takeoff climb. I can tell you that every time it was in limits for a dry runway. Wet runway was a no go T/O or Ldg. All flights arrived early morning, dep late PM or early evening for low temp. No night landings were made. Diverted 3 times due wet runway delayed two flights due high temp in the afternoon, night stopped once because of wx, went around once. |
