Monarch Divert to LGW?
Hi,
I was just watching PlanePlotter, the landing runway IS and was 26L, I saw MON729 decend to 2000ft and then came established/visual 08R were it landed. I checked Gatwicks website and there are no Monarch Arrivals till 2am. Anyone know why it landed like this, even though the active was 26L at the time? Thanks |
You can't have checked very hard!
The ZB729 from Murcia was scheduled in to LGW at 2240. The arrival will have been from the South West and with the wind calm, perhaps a straight in approach to 08R was offered and accepted? Nothing strange at all. :ok: |
Oh - Its just the way it arrived compared to the others who were following normal procedures, I thought it might be an Ill passenger or something, and were given a shortcut.

No, there's not a drama behind every peculiar event you may think you see. Late night arrivals into a quiet Gatwick, ATC frequently let you land on whichever runway you like. An apparent off schedule landing could just be a delayed flight, not an illness crisis! Strobes on at the gate may be the ground engineer checking the aeroplane for turnaround, not the pilots forgetting to turn them off, similarly flaps down at the gate may be maintenance or checking rather than pilots 'forgetting' to retract them. People never look for the mundane or boring with aviation- they always assume drama and crisis!

HA - a few examples of what it depends on:
weather ok - wind and ILS not needed (it is on the other runway) no departing 26 traffic in the way no taxiways obstructed by taxying a/c (more likely for a 26 landing with 08 in use) PS - yes, you are on the right forum:ugh: |
HEATHROW AIRPORT
Your a sad person What time did u see the Mon Flt do something ??? Get a Life PLEASE |
HEATHROW AIRPORT Your a sad person What time did u see the Mon Flt do something ??? Get a Life PLEASE some people need to chill out on this forum and not try to make people feel small/dumb for asking things... |
HEATHROW AIRPORT Your a sad person What time did u see the Mon Flt do something ??? Get a Life PLEASE Someone also has just shed some light on also why the Monarch landed 08R instead of 26L like everyone else was doing at the time, there was a Medical emergency onboard. Just as I thought as I have never ever seen an aicraft land a different runway with so many Inbound to the opposite. |
Strobes on at the gate may be the ground engineer checking the aeroplane for turnaround Apologies to all for the slight thread drift on this but your comment above flagged a question. My understanding was that in a multi-crew commercial etc.... environment the walk around inspection is typically performed by the pilot flying the next sector. It makes sense that a ground engineer also perform this inspection whilst the plane is on stand but I was wondering if this inspection you mention was in addition to or replacing the walk around by the flight deck crew. I think I know the answer but thought I would ask. |
<<Once you go back to school and type in proper english like everyone else on this forum.>>
Just read that "sentence" again, Robbie. Your English and grammar are among the worst on PPRune. When you type a posting, go back and read it several times to see if it makes sense before you press the button. |
JofM5 - I can only comment with 5 yr old BA stuff - the check on the strobes and all other lights was carried out approximately daily by the eng dept and was NOT normally co-incident with a pilot walk-round - and could happen in the daytime. Some pilots will check other external lights (but not strobes) for night ops, some will not.

Heathrow Airport you really need to get out more and think before you post.......
visual 08R were it landed. Even if it was a diversion, is it really worth a new thread on here? Really? As I said earlier, buy a scanner and half the questions you ask on here will be answered. |
I have a scanner, in reference to this. http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archi...fo/ra169r7.pdf
I rather not discuss what I hear, however - I am very observant and have never seen an aircraft land 08R where the main runway in use was 26L. First time Ive seen a medical emergency so it was pretty cool. I did get the forum correct, imagine I put this in Rumour and news. I would have ended up needing physiatric help. |
Er....
1) You never saw it, it was on a screen. 2) People being ill isn't really cool. 3) Are you really gonna start a new thread every time you see something new? 4) You can't spell "aircraft" which is worrying (!) |
Oh My God............
|
Be careful HA as you are likely to be offending people.
First time Ive seen a medical emergency so it was pretty cool. Also, your grammar and spelling in your last two posts isn't that hot either so be wary throwing stones. |
:mad:I feel like I am at school again, every word is anaylsed in detail. I mistyped AIRCRAFT and spelt it wrong, what on earth is wrong. I thought I have every right to ask questions, I thing its better that I do that so I don't start saying to others OH that plane landed 08R thats dangerous.
Not pretty cool for the passenger, I think you miss interpreted what I said, yeah Its not cool that the person was Ill, Im talking about the fact the aircraft was making an emergency, how often do you get to see that? There are 25000 aircraft flights a day, only 10 of those per day will be emergencies. Also before you jump on my throat for that one above, I dont think It is cool for an aicraft to be in danger. It is just cool in terms of something I have not seen before, No I would not say 300 people dead is cool either. It is not. |
Enough already.
HA, read your last post and look carefully at the spelling and grammar, this after you were advised to read your replies carefully before posting. It is not cool to cream yourself over a medical emergency, I'll make an allowance as you are only 16 years old. If you are gonna mix it with the big boys, don't make plank comments or try to be clever. This lot will eat you for breakfast. There are 25000 aircraft flights a day, only 10 of those per day will be emergencies. |

There are 25000 aircraft flights a day, only 10 of those per day will be emergencies. Is this a recorded fact? FlightAware has tracked 42,253 arrivals in the last 24 hours. |
