A380 at LGW

Just saw a Singapore A380 on approach into LGW, whats all that about?

White Knight 10th Aug 2008 18:35

(False) fire alarm at LHR tower

Several flights were delayed or diverted this afternoon, due to a fire alarm at the LHR tower - among them, the A380 to LGW.

Situation now returning to normal.

ukdean 10th Aug 2008 18:39

Sounds interesting....possible divert from lhr?

barrythecat 10th Aug 2008 18:39

Thanks for the info, shame though we don't normally get to see the 380:D

Charley B 10th Aug 2008 18:39

Just seen it as well--fantastic sight going down the approach--think probs at LHR Jet A/ways and BMI have just gone in as well

hetfield 10th Aug 2008 18:41

Oh my God, a 380 is diverting.

Unbelievable.

Dr_Tre 10th Aug 2008 18:43

it has happened before.

Illusory 10th Aug 2008 18:46

A few BA a/c have diverted to Luton too. The back log to get back to LHR is pretty massive i hear. Lots of discretion issues etc. Will be a long night!!

unablereqnavperf 10th Aug 2008 18:47

Hope it missed the school!

Northern Hero 10th Aug 2008 18:47

2nd 380 diversion today. EK DXB-JFK diverted to MUC with a medical emergency.

Oh god. I'm sounding like a spotter now :}

And the colour of your anorak is? :8

Here is a photo of the Emirates A380 dumping fuel before landing at MUC

No need for an anorak there it seems

Fly747 10th Aug 2008 19:48

Good one

Good one KGL. How far below were you? Did they warn you?
I would have considered flying an offset, maybe a risk of engine surge if you ingest fuel. Perhaps you did offset, it would be interesting to know more.

jetboyjim 10th Aug 2008 20:09

Did it make it under the bridge along taxiway Lima?

Dropline 10th Aug 2008 20:14

Didn't get that far...parked on 171.

JB007 10th Aug 2008 20:55

Just taxied past it! It needs a wash....

Charley B 10th Aug 2008 21:13

it has just left about 5 mins ago to return to LHR--very quiet as it went past!

Leave 5 on the glide 10th Aug 2008 21:14

First an answer to your first question Fly747: I was at least 33,000 feet below and at least 1,300 km to the north northwest. ;)

The photo was taken 12:23 as the Emirates A380 passed above westbound on UL984 and was published on a Polish aviation forum. In other words the photo was taken from the ground - and no danger for engine surge or chemical pneumonia for the photographer. For those of you in the sharp end, remember to smile even at cruise altitude - you can be taken photo of. :O

I limit my self to take photos of parked aircraft, taxiing aircraft, aircraft taking off, aircraft on short final or landing and sometime I even get photo of a captain showing he's an anorak :ok:

Of course the aircraft the captain took a photo was the Concorde at Manchester Airport. And yes, he did make a full stop on taxiway Alpha before shooting G-BOAC.

That was quite a telephoto shot to get Jodrell Bank in as well. Good shot!
