A-SMGCS Heathrow
It has been noticed that since the instruction to select mode A (with allocated code) at pushback, or leave mode A selected after landing has been removed from the Heathrow ATIS, compliance with this requirement has lapsed considerably. Please guys make it part of your SOPs when operating into Heathrow. Many thanks.

It's SOP on my fleet (BA 777) however some types (737-400 for instance) have a "wheels on ground" switch that automatically cuts the transponder and the strobe lights until airborne.

Hi all,
ATCO TWO i dont know why some pilots dont do that as even if its no more on ATIS it is still charted on one of the charts (dont ask me which one). Seems to me people are not reading everything they need too...............
The other day at Heathrow one crew after landing asked the ground controller if she would like him to keep his transponder on after landing to which She politely replied with a big Yes
Cheers.
