Was it a B727 or an MD 83

Yesterday afternoon about 15:15 I saw and heard a large rear engined aircraft. Cloud was scattered at about 2000’ so not a clear view. Aircraft was at about 2500 to 3000 feet and very noisy. About 10 miles north of Shoreham Airport. Think it might have been the oil spill 727.
