Well keeping the topic all things airborne of Eastern European origin, I finally made it home, although not on my regular charge BA59, but on EK2/EK772 (which were both rather good)

Not much in our Southern skies at the moment, but we do enjoy a weekly rotation by this beauty on its was to/from Troll, Antarctica

Regret to report the Soviet IL-76 was built in Tashkent, Uzbekistan - very much in Asia

Speaking of Russkie aircraft, 2 loud Antonovs, one pre-noon and the other post noon overflew London heading into Europe out of Birmingham. Seems to be a load of AN-whatevers flying the (car parts ?) circuit at the moment.

I know, I know, I can't but help see them encompassed in the old USSR, even if it was the clever and industrious Ukrainians that were running the show :-)

Actually three out of BHX today, two AN-26 [at 11.45 and 12.25] both routing BHX-OSR Ostrava, Czechia [formally called the Czech republic] and an AN-12 13.30 routing BHX-XCR [Chalons-Vatry, France]

U-2 68-10337 climbing out of Fairford, presume another trip out to the Scandanavian area and perhaps beyond...

MAC 40612 - was that a Starlifter?

She flies! I can confirm that the Cat has just flown over Inverness enroute Dalcross. I understand it will be further checked over there before heading home.

Great news!

SHJ, if you missed the story, the Catalina had an engine failure on Loch Ness a few weeks back and had to be craned out of the water and back in for an engine change. A rather expensive and cround-funded operation...

That vaguely stirs the grey matter although my brian has filed that snippet in the many months ago file, which is probably why it didn't ring a bell now. Where is it's home ?

Duxford - as opposed to Duck's Ford...

There's an aeroplane I'd like to see over here, a Grumman Duck. Might watch Murphy's War later on...

Thank you for that info. I'm sure I saw a Grumman Duck in the UK, or at least Europe in the last few decades, either at an airshow, or museum.

No Ducks over here in a long long time if ever I'd think. There were two (or was it three?) Grumman F2F biplanes at Duxford's Flyting Legends a fews years back - they were reproductions and were containered over for the airshow by Tom and Dan Friedkin. Might be what you recollect?

Long ago there was a onetime Ms WHBM who was to accompany me to Flying Legends (big mistake) who, I discovered, had written it down like that. Only as we approached the M11 junction was there "Oh, is THAT how it's spelt".

Being from across the Atlantic, I shortly after got Norridge (as in porridge) for Norwich as well.

Interesting that Heathrow's WebTrak (driven by NATS radar) plotted it with its former FMS serial (06-0207):

Walking on Butser Hill near Petersfield, Hants this morning I heard a once familar sound and then a Gazelle AH.1(?) appear from behind the crest. Heading I guesstimate 170°ish (wondered if it was heading for Baker Barracks/Thorney Island). To be honest I had forgotten they were still in service - 50th anniversary of the first UK order for 60 was this August.
