Interesting, but how do you know it is dumping fuel, are you monitoring freqs? Be very surprised if it was jettisoning in this area at 9000' unless it was a serious emergency. Dumping in a racetrack pattern doesn't seem a great idea either.

If he isn't dumping fuel he's doing chemtrails over Luton . . .

We're all watching from the office just now.

I have pictures but not able to upload.Aircrafthas just stopped dumping. It was very clear- two streams of white mist from dumping vents on either wing. Looks like aircraft now heading back to LHR.

Going round and round with streamers from both wingtips.

On its way back to LHR now by the looks of it.

Can't see a problem with a racetrack dump in a 30 kt wind. Just led me to terminate a phone call and look too. On finals LHR now

The BA site not being very helpful:
Delayed departure

We’re very sorry, this flight has been delayed significantly.
If you’re travelling on this flight, and we haven’t contacted you, please check in and make sure you are at the airport in time for the original scheduled departure time.

Just watched it's final approach on 27R from the Hilton Garden Inn, looked like a normal landing with nothing obvious to see.

Choosing my words carefully -I gather from first reports it wasn’t a “serious emergency” but it was a problem that stopped the flight continuing to destination.....hence the dumping of fuel to get down to a suitable weight and a return, and hence Trav a la’s observation that the arrival appeared to be normal....there was no reason it wouldn’t have been.

Normal, apart from the 15nm gap created behind it by ATC, suggesting that they were preparing for the possibility that it would be slow to clear the runway.

Or a runway inspection would be required

I’m suprised the BA Source hasn’t come up with the reason yet...maybe that site isn’t all it is cracked up to be........

Probably shouldn't say this although a licensed pilot using a licensed radio but believe the pilot requested a runway inspection.

The event is listed

British Airways B787-9 G-ZBKF BA225 London Heathrow Technical Return. | The BA Source

but with no indication of the cause other than a "technical issue".

Interestingly, it mentions burning off rather than dumping fuel.

Thanks...for some reason I couldn’t see that when I looked earlier..........it was a bit of a pain but I had an early start and that might have been down to my eyes glazing over....

Bravo .......but no prize other than thanks from me for putting the thread out of it’s misery.....I was running out of word association football clues, and was about to give up dropping hints for the night........which would have been a putty... (ed: don’t give up the day job).
