Is the RAF flying a Kamov?
I live in Heathfield, East Sussex, and we are very familiar with Chinooks from RAF Odiham flying around here at low level, both by day and in the evenings. But on Friday morning 29 Sept 2017 I heard a slightly different noise approaching on the normal military west > east low level transit route which runs across just to the north of the town. I only saw the chopper briefly but it looked like a red & white Kamov Ka-32 - just like the Swiss Helog ones.
As is common with the Chinooks on their exercises, it followed the normal Wokka route, dropped down below the tree line into the Rother valley and disappeared off towards Kent. Later I heard it come back and maneouvre around somewhere west of us, but I couldn't see it. Did anyone else see this? What's going on?

Thanks very much everyone - that explains everything. Shame I missed the activity at the Heathfield mast, but at least it shows my aircraft recognition is still reasonable!
