When aircraft are air-to-air refuelling, do the receivers have transponders on? I see the RAF have a tanker up at the moment, flying racetracks off the Scottish coast. He was up there the other night as well, but no sign of any receivers.

Fair point; thanks. However, would one expect to see the receivers on their way in and out? I only ask because I'm new to playing with this FlightRadar24 thing. Sad really.

Rubbish ! Loads of Lossiemouth and Coningsby based Typhoons have shown on FR24 - but never when heading for refuelling tankers.
Here's a starter: 29 (R) Sqn ZK338 was up today over the Irish Sea as WARLORD 42 , active on Mode-S. FL250 09:05 UTC. Plenty of other RAF assets shown but not that one.

...........and here is a 1 squadron Typhoon showing currently on FR24......................................................

"In-service Tornados and Typhoons are suppressed on FR24, so you won't see them even with their Mode-S on."
