Gear Issue at JFK Interesting pics

A bit of an old story but you would think that the crew would be aware that one was not down and locked.

Photos: Landing Gear Issue Damages China Airlines Cargo 747 at JFK

"The gear of the 747-400F had not fully deployed due to a hydraulic failure. The crew made no mention of the issue, and may not have known about it at all, until after they landed. The aircraft sat on Taxiway Zulu for hours to remove cargo to lighten the load before needing to be towed to parking at Building 76."

A question - how would the door in front of that leg have closed if it hadn't come down properly?

I'm also wondering how after that door closed the leg would have moved forward during approach and landing

Looks like the leg didn't fully lock down. It would have had to extend for the gear door to close behind it. Interesting to find out if they had the correct indications in the cockpit.

Looks like fairly minimal damage for what could have been a quite nasty malfunction.

Hahahaha, sure!
Why do you feel that way? Looks like the bad stuff became obvious only after they landed.
