Intake on base of VS on Typhoon
I was watching a few Typhoons doing their stuff at Conningsby and I noticed that they have a small air intake on the base of the vertical stabilizer and I wondered what it was for. Anyone care to enlighten me? I expect that it might be some radiator for something or other.

Thanks.
There is also a hole above the port wing root that is always sooty. Obviously an exhaust for something or other (on a Lightning it would be the avpin exhaust ). APU maybe?

Interestingly, there is a thriving aftermarket in add-on APU exhausts to add realism to the various large-scale Typhoon plastic kits.
