Schipol Delays
Anyone know the reason for the delays at Schipol this morning. lots of diversions reported and number 2 daughter was delayed for 90 minutes leaving HUY apparently due to a runway blockage at Schipol. Appeared to be a lot of delayed aircraft just for a runway blockage at Schipol, i thought that they had lots to choose from.

Thought it might have been due to weather as it was bloody miserable in Bremen and North Germany this morning. 2 KLMs on the ramp there too waiting to go to Amsterdam apparently having diverted - we did wonder.

Schiphol does have 6 runways. However if there were an emergency blocking one, it could be some time before there is sufficient fire cover to use the other runways as was the case with the Turkish crash a few years ago.
That being said, I would imagine the recent delays were due to adverse weather.

Daughter was pretty lucky, by the time she arrived at Schipol she only had about an hour to transfer. She was going to Abu Dhabi and then on to Oz but her flight was one of the few to leave AMS on time that morning and she arrived in AUH in time to catch her connection to MEL. Her bags made it all the way, as well
