Near miss at Sabiha Gökçen

Just read in a major Dutch newspaper that last monday an aircraft had to abort the landing 30 seconds before touch down. This because the pilots of the landing aircraft saw an aircraft taxing on the runway. Anyone knows more about it?

Thirty seconds out is not a near miss, the landing aircraft would have been over a mile out on the approach.

Missed approaches due to runway occupancy are relatively common and are not dangerous, after all a missed approach is just the safe continuation of the flight.

Just the usual newspaper sensationalism.

Plane accident prevented last minute at Istanbul airport

Although no mention of which airlines were involved congratulations to the pilot for quick thinking to avoid a disaster.

Jet2 on approach to Tel Aviv did a last minute (if not last 15 seconds) go around last night. Captain admitted that his approach was 'delayed'.

Knowing the arrival route well, I reckoned he was a bit high on the downwind section and as he turned onto the approach but was still surprised by him pressing the TOGA button.
