The fact it's Squawking 7700 and appears to flying around in circles (presumably to dump fuel) would indicate that you may well be right!

Minor tech problem, perhaps flaps
Virgin confirmed a minor technical problem. Flight is going to Gatwick.

An hour ago, two fighter jets roared over my house in Kent, heading north-west. Very unusual outside Biggin Hill Air Show. Anything to do with the 7700, I wonder?
