BA0840 Canceled

Hi, does anyone know why BA0840 LHR - KBP was canceled this morning?
Friends where due to fly, but was told at 06.15, the flight was canceled with no explanation from BA as to why, they have now been put on the later BA0882, which is going to cause problems at Kiev as they are due at a meeting this afternoon and will now be very late. Is there a website specifically for BA problems / information, the BA website is useless.

Thanks.

Apparently cancelled at 0454 this morning for technical reasons. I am surprised that no back-up was available.

the back up B734 is presently parked in Genoa.
A baggage trolley was driven along the fuselage leaving a tear about 5 feet long. It will be there a while longer!

BA's B734s are all based at Gatwick, and only visit LHR for occasional maintenance, so the likelihood of one being used as a backup for a Heathrow service is pretty remote.

I felt a flutter there for a moment - there was a time when BA840 was a Heathrow - Cork flight. Oh, the joy of recollection!

Lot of aircraft having special maintenance in Scotland at the mo. Hence not many back up aircraft.
