BA287 LHR SFO (via GLA)

BA287 appears to have dropped into GLA enroute to SFO....any ideas why?

Unwell infant mentioned in the mayday.
I thought mayday was used when the aircraft was in danger (i.e. get the firetrucks ready) - would a call like this not result in a speedy taxi to the gate, or would the ambulance meet the aircraft? Hope he/she was ok.
