C130 flying out of Birmingham reguler

I Have seen a Herc C130 flying out of Birmingham last Tuesday at 10.45 and twice today am pm ,it has a large A V on the tail and 3 out of the 4 engines are chucking out copious amounts of dense black smoke ,i think its a civi Herc and not RAF. This Herc must be the dirtiest aircraft flying out of Birmingham with the black trail it leaves ,anyone know who owns it .

Yes, its owned by a bloke who drinks in my local. He has said it needs a new exhaust but is a bit short on the old reddies at the mo but he will need to get it done for the MOT.

Is this reguler C130 (which is an Antonev 12 by the way) normally parked outside the Birminghem hangers?

The aircraft is a Herk C130 without a doubt , it is not an Antonev but could be EI-JIV if its been resprayed in a dark colour and 2 large A V letters on the tail . Since i posted on here on the 23rd i hav'nt seen or heard it about .

"AV" sounds a lot like Aerovis, a Ukranian operator of Antonov 12s and a frequent visitor to BHX in 2012 - along with other An-12 operators.

Certainly the AN-12 chucks out a lot of black stuff compared to a C-130. To the untrained eye an AN-12 does look like a C-130 and is listed as a confliction/confusion in aircraft recognition circles.

Sorry i did'nt mention that 5yrs of working on Hercs at Fairford & Lyneham in the 70s and many low level jollys makes me a trained eye and trained ear i think you might agree . Anyhow thanks to you all for your contributions but its a C130 and not AN-12. In my RAF days i saw a lot of aircraft including Antonovs of the Indian air Force and widowers of the italian air force that smoked and spat flames out aswell but never a Herc like this one, but only 3 of its engines are dirty the inner port is clean .

Early on in it`s travels to Brum, some `pikeys` nicked the catalytic converters, that most aircraft are supposed to have fitted nowadays. As they`re as rare as `hens teeth` to find spares,it`s acceptable to have an `Exemption` from the CAA when operating in the `Black Country..

A look at http://bhxmovements.********.com/ might provide the answer.
for Tuesday 21st they list both an AN-12 and a L100 as parked all day and two AN-12s as active:
UR-CAK AN12 Meridian Aviation (MEM4086/4087)-n/s-d15:12-a23:35-n/s
UR-CGV AN12 Meridian Aviation (MEM4088/4089/4050)-n/s-d10:48-a17:54-d20:10

For the 23rd they list both an AN-12 and L100 as parked all day and one AN-12 as active:
UR-DWF AN12 Meridian Aviation (MEM4086/4087/4040)-n/s-d06:00-a13:45-d16:02

C130?

I came across this site due to the bloody dirty thing coming over my house most days and wanting to find out more about it.

I can confirm through close inspection that it is indeed the Antonov. Yes it does look very much like the C130 as you have suggested.

I love the C130's as well as the Globemaster, but after checking the flight stats I can't find any mention of it at all. The one thing that confused me every time it went over was the bulbus part just in front of the nose wheel, as far as I am aware the C130 doesn't have this, the Antonov does though. Maybe this is the only feature that is different, to the trained eye...?

Some AN-12s have a gun turret in the tail, with the guns removed. Think there is about half a dozen based at Birmingham flying car spares.

C130/AN12

Hercs with the T56-a-15 or -a-7 engines would smoke which was a handy feature if you were waiting for one in a stream of inbound traffic whilst on OPS somewhere. The C130J with the modern engine prop combo does not. The AN12, as with many Russian transport aircraft, does have a glazed Navs/bombaimers position under the nose which is a good recognition feature.

There have been a few Hercs around Glos, Hereford, Worcs in the past week, got woken up by one down by the Severn.

Every night for the past couple of months we've heard a four prop over Tewkesbury. Last night my son saw a Herc heading south, just to the west of the m5.
