The Heathrow Webtrack site shows VP-BAT landing at 11:05. This is a Qatar Amiri Flight aircraft although the site gives the callsign as SIG747 which I do not recognise. It also states that the flight originated in Zurich.

SIG747 will be the 'flight number' allocated to the flight within LHR's information systems; any non-airline flight into LHR is handled by Signature, and it was a 747, hence SIG747.

I'm trying to verify a reference to a '747SR81' in the Wikipedia entry, look at the image on the right: Qatar Airways - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can zoom the image and then see that it is sourced from Airliners and THAT image of A7-ABL (cn 21605/351) is obviously a -200 is referred to as 747SR81. Please let me know what the reason for this was? It seems like a fit out variant and, possibly with long range tanks, before the SP was developed.

Thanks.

Angel

As far as I can remember the 2 main Japanese airlines ordered the SR version of the 747. SR standing for Short Range. It had a beefed up structure for the higher than normal landing cycles but less fuel capacity (Less tanks?) Feel free to correct me.

They were the same dimension as any other series 200 but had lower MTOW.

Boeing , Planemaker to the world book has some interesting info. Try one of the auction sites.

All the SR versions built were -100s not -200s. Therefore the aircraft referred to (a 747-SR81) is based on the 747-100.

Also the -SRs had a slightly HIGHER fuel capacity than most other -100 versions (but the same as the 100SF). The main difference was the very high seating capacity - typically 550!

Many thanks for that, I had not heard of the SR variant (nor the SF for that matter!) and Boeing's own pages are so numerous and detailed that I stopped wading through them.

This belongs to the ex Emir of Qatar who now lives in Switzerland. Still in the old Qatari Royal Flight c/s.

Can be seen at Bournmouth when in for maintenance on a regular basis.
