Newcastle - Sydney's second airport?
Much touted in Newcastle as the best option for Sydney's second airport, the current Williamtown airbase is 175km from Sydney. The usual "we'll build a hi-speed rail link" stuff has been mentioned, but we all know that it will never happen as it would cost far too much. The airport therefore would never be utilised as it would take literally hours to get into Sydney - and that after a long international flight......I don't think so!
There must be existing examples of bad airport locations in relation to the distance from the city it is supposed to serve. Montreal Mirabel springs to mind.

And 'Glasgow' Prestwick is pushing it a bit !
Prestwick has a direct train service from a station on the airport to Glasgow and the A77/M77 is a very good road direct into central Glasgow. There are NO good roads direct into Central London. Therefore describing Prestwick as a "Glasgow" airport is perfectly acceptable.
