IFE on Thomson 737 800 on +5hr flight
Hello. I'm going to Sharm from MAN on 8th June on TOM894 and we return on TOM 547. On my previous 3 trips to Sharm with Thomson we've always gone on a 767 which has the rear seat screens where you can direct your own entertainment - good for longer journeys.
Initially I thought route was via 757 but I've since been told it will be 737 800?? Not sure what type at all now.
Can anyone tell me the aircraft type and, what type of IFE to expect as Thompson claim that for long haul ( Egypt classed as long) you get the operate your own apparatus.
Thanks

Strid,
Egypt isn't a long haul destination. It's a short (medium) haul. TOM894/5 are operated by a 73H (737-800 winglets). You might be better asking your questions on Holiday Truths with most of the information you're looking for listed on the What Aircraft? guide.

If your going on a 738 then youll either have tv's in the ceiling on down the ailes or drop down ones which come down below the overhead compartments... the same film/tv shows are shown throughout the whole cabin. Eygpt isnt a longhaul destination and had never been. hope this helps.

All TOM 738's have the drop down type screens.
If your lucky you'll get to travel on one of the brand new 738's complete with the 'Sky' interior. I was onboard GFDZU yesterday playing about with the new features and it's great. Mood lighting (sunset lighting, night time etc) and flip down TV's above the seats.
Long flight on a 738 but TOM are one of the better 738 operators around imo

Wow. That does sound exciting, fingers crossed.
Were the drop down screens above each seat and what options were you playing with?
Thanks, excited again.

The screens were just your standard flip down types which play whatever TV program / movie the cabin crew choose. The only thing you'll be able to choose is the radio channels in your arm rest, no person TV's on it.
I was messing about with the light settings mostly yesterday, which is apparently supposed to reduce the effects of jetlag (not that you'd get jetlagged on UK-Egypt )
There's a video here of the boeing sky interior:

I flew to Cyprus mid April on a TOM 738. ZE out & ZA back (I think). As others have mentioned drop down screens over the seats. Audio bit hit & miss unfortunately. Did not notice mood lighting personally.
