BA 747 hi-speed aborted Take Off LAX

BA282 22 APR LAX-LHR aborted approximately 30 seconds into the take off roll apparently due to "wheel problems"
Four hours later, a mechanic who happened to be onboard as a pax, seems to have rectified the problem and the 747 took off again.

Anyone having details??

Hope the mechanic managed to spend the rest of the trip sprawled out in first class for his efforts!

It had a main gear steering unlocked message. The offending steering actuator was locked out. The local BA engineers were having problems identifying which actuator was at fault and were helped by a pax who works the aircraft for BA at T5 LHR.

On the subject of RTOs and assuming that the reason for the abort turns out to be spurious is there a speed above which the a/c has to be taken in for maintenance versus being allowed to immediately head out for another take-off?

Brake cooling times must be observed. This time varies with A/C weight & speed at time of reject.
