Crew rest on rescue flights to Libya?
Not sure if anyone knows the answer to this, but...
...when I heard that an Astreus A320 and B757 left Gatwick for Libya yesterday, and only returned to Gatwick this morning, I asked myself whether each flight also carried a second flight crew compliment to operate the return flight?
I presume the pilots from the flight out would not have been able to fly back this morning, given flight time limitations / the total chaos at the airport / lack of anywhere to stop-over?

With respect, that's bananas. The dispute was between Astraeus and bmi because of Astraeus's shocking 757 reliability record. BMI still flies to Freetown using their own aircraft.
otally bananas,
The Sierra Leonean Government pulled the plug on BMI flights (operated by Astraeus 757) to Sierra Leone, purely based on a commercial dispute with BMI.

The RAF does not have enough transport aircraft to service its needs as it is. Hence the regular charters of Monarch & various other carriers from Brize to service the MoD needs. So the prospect of any spare RAF capacity for an emergency is nil.
With our shrinking armed forces, it's about time we stopped meddling in other countries affairs & operated within our means.
D. Cs current arms tour of the middle east should have been cancelled. It is not the time to be whipping up arms contracts to prop up various regimes.

Hi guys,
Observed AEU 918 yesterday, passing the French coast @2216 passing FL260 climbing, from EGKK to HLLT.
It was listed as B757 G-OJIB which I believe was the Iron Maiden 2010 Tour aircraft.

When you have a Government totally ruled by its Treasury, you have Foreign Secretaries making inane comments like `evacuation using commercial means` which results in the PM making grovelling apologies.
Oh yes and the MOD was neglected by the last lot and simply raped by this incompetent bunch.....sorry Brits abroad we have run out of money so you`ll have to fend for yerselves

BBC and RTE reports the Irish Air Corp LearJet did a medical emergency evacuation of a EU citizen.
The LearJet is used routinely for emergency medical missions
Edit: UK Family, including mother and recently born by caesarian child

Was it just me, ....but in one of the BBC news reports from Malta airport yesterday, there was a white 146 landing with a union jack on the tail...

Always preferred 'coastal locations' for my overseas jaunts - a bunch of $$$$'s and latterly a Sat-phone made my bug out plans always seem practical though on 9/11 at PZU I was twitching for a few hours!!!
