B787 and B748 engines
We see on other sites photographs of B787's and B748F sat on the ramp at Everett with no engines, just the lumps of concrete as balance on the pylons.
Is this the normal sight at aircraft factories, almost completed airframes, in customer colours, with no engines??
Is there a particular problem with supply, or is Boeing waiting for modifications to be made the results of flight testing and certification??
Thanks in advance

I would say it has nothing to do with the Trent failure and all to do with problems had during build and test flying.
You are not going to fit engines until the last minute, shortly before maiden flight and delivery.
It is the same at Airbus, the last item is fit the engines and that is normally after the paint shop.
Soon as you fit the engines, you have to pay for them and boy they are not cheap.

I can remember being at Everett in September 1969 and a significant number of the first 747 production was sat round the perimeter with concrete blocks suspended from the engine mountings, due to issues Pratts had with the first JT9Ds.
I wonder if they are the same concrete blocks, kept in store since then ....... !
