Kate Middleton's Father

Just out of curiosity was Kate Middleton's father, Michael, ever a pilot for British Airways ? I have seen him refered to as a dispatcher, an airline officer (whatever that is) and a pilot.

Can anybody out there answer the question.

Can't believe he was an airline pilot as there would be too many air hostesses contacting the News of the World/Sunday Mirror/Star/Guardian? with pages of 'overnight' encounters!

I believe he was BA (BOAC?) Cabin Crew for a while. His father was a pilot.

Think I read that in the Daily Mail, so the truth might be a little ragged.

Michael Francis Middleton only ever worked as an airline steward, according to the more accurate reports. His father was apparently a pilot, and Michael has apparently done nothing to correct the erroneous articles that have been written, that indicated he had "followed in his fathers footsteps..."

Kate's grandfather, Peter Middleton, was a pilot in WW2. He flew many aircraft, and towards the end of the war was flying the Mosquito on lone night raids over Germany. After the war he flew for BEA, and was a popular captain on the Trident.
Captain Peter Middleton died on 2nd November 2010.

How did the Middleton (cabin crew generation) manage to elevate themselves into the upper middle/lower upper classes, then. Inherited money?

Regarding the matter of speculation about "class elevation", I don't think this is any of our business. This sort of intrusive nosyness seems to be on the increase nowadays, probably encouraged by the media's apparent obsession with the totally uninteresting trivia of the lives of so-called "celebrities". Sheesh ....

I rather thought that this was the cause of William's elevation and thus the source of the Middleton's ultimate success. It wouldn't be ridiculous to presume that since she will have a title of some sort, her parents will also have to be elevated to the nobility. It wouldn't do for William and Kate to be announced on formal occasions as Prince William and Princess Catherine followed miles down the line by Mr & Mrs Middleton. I would suspect an Earldom is in the offing although Baron and Baroness Bucklebury of Berkshire sounds rather more fun.

What on earth has all this to do with professional flying? Prince William and his bride-to-be are obviously very happy so Miss Middleton's background is irrelevant, except to the gutter-press, and should be of no concern.

Hmm..... It didn't work for the parents of Mark Phillips, Sarah York, Sophie Wessex or, for that matter, Camilla Wales.

Well, at least it's all in Spectator's Balcony which is appropriate enough for such irreverent irrelevance. Mind you though, William is a helicopter rescue pilot and MM was a BOAC steward so there is a professional flying connection. But I do agree and hazard that such scurrility belongs, if anywhere at all, in Jet Blast.

Titles and forms of address.
Well perhaps that's right in respect of the minors but Camilla may yet be Queen and Catherine will be one day unless the Republican deluge finally succeeds! Can the British have a queen's parents as Mr & Mrs? What odds at Ladbrookes?

It's nice to know that our future queen has an aviation background.

....their elevation to the Middle Classes has more to do with the success of the mail order (now internet) business (Party Pieces) that they founded in the late '80's after leaving BA - it has done well enough to fund Kate and her siblings through private education.

Kate's Uncle is a teacher at the local State Secondary School (attended by my Wycombe-ettes), not far from Middleton Mansions.

Miss Middleton's backgound is of interest, and now that she is at the forefront of the public's gaze her background inevitably comes under scrutiny, as she will marry the future king of this country.

The anomaly between her father's previous occupation and his family's apparent lifestyle was glaring and begged the question from those of us who read neither 'Now' nor the 'Daily Mail'.

Airclues - many thanks for the link. Alles wird verstanden.
