A330 passenger seat comfort

Hi all,
posting as a simple SLF I recently had my first flight in an airbus A330 in economy,

The plane itself is quite good, however I found it had the most uncomfortable seats that I have ever sat in on any aircraft, including the small commuter aircraft.
And I do a lot of flying for work. (SLF gold status).

Talking about this to a neighbour and she immediately remembered an uncomfortable flight she and her husband had a few months ago on their holiday, so they checked the flight schedule and sure enough it was an airbus A330.
so that is 3 out of 3 people that agree that the A330 has the most uncomfortable seats.
Anyone else found this?
more to the point is it any different on other airlines or are they all the same?. i.e. does qantas have different seats and if so is it that difference that makes them unconformable or is the basic design of the seat?.
from my part I will now avoid going on an A330 even if it means changing schedules, my back is really painful after a short 4.5 hr flight would hate to have a 9hr + flight on these things.

You ask " it any different on other airlines" yet you don't mention the any airline to start off with! I have sat on many comfortable A330s (Qatar, Etihad to name a couple), but have also been on the opposite end of the spectrum (Monarch - never again!).

Apologies, I thought I did mention QANTAS. Perhaps not too clear though.

It was after a most uncomfortable economy seat in an A340 (not A330) some 11 years ago that I vowed never to fly economy on long haul flights again. I kept to my promise!

Swiss A.330 Zurich to Chicago was fine for me. I'm six foot one.

If you want a real treat and are taller than 5'2" , try British Airways 744 economy on a long haul! If you can walk afterwards you deserve a place in the local circus. It is probably the worst you can find. There are two metal protrusions on each side of the seat in front that are effectively aimed at the centre of your knees. When the passenger in front of you reclines, take a deep breath! Have a look at Seatguru and you will see that the gap is 31" - smaller than most.
Sadly I am just over 6' and find it incredible that anyone could ever had thought that the design in BA economy class could be acceptable.
It is no wonder that people suffer from deep-vein thrombosis when they are literally locked into a seat for 11 hours.

"Seat" or "pitch"?

You can have very confortable seats with small pitch and you can have unconfortable seats with wide pitch (and vice-versa).
By the way, both are airline choice and have nothing to do with aircraft maker and /or model.

I've flown on A330s more times than I can remember. Always found them very comfortable. In fact, when I'm booking transAtlantic flights I actually look for A330 on the route as prefer this to most Boeing that I've flown on.

But like Eagle45 has said, the seats are nothing to do with it being an Airbus or Boeing, so will vary widely by airline.

330 seats

My feelings as well. Came back from Sri Lanka on one of their 330s - 12 hours Colombo to LHR.

The plane had Recaro seats so I can see why rally drivers go so fast - it's to get out the car before the backside numbness reaches the brain.

As luck would have it I drove from LHR to LGW to catch a Virgin 747 to Florida the next day so I managed to massage my rear end with 7 hours in one of their comfortable seats (even in economy).

Having flown in several other airlines 330s I think that Sri Lankan are the only ones - or if the others were using Recaro they've had them made to fit the human butt!

Happy flying

Aer Lingus use Recaro seats on their 330's and I've found them very comfy flying to New York. I'm 5' 11" and have had enough room for my legs/knees too.
