Heathrow Renaissance Hotel
Hi folks,
I have a night stop in Heathrow this Friday and am hoping to book the Renaissance hotel, as I hear it has some excellent views of the runways.
I notice there is a spotters package for a litte extra and am considering booking this.
Has anyone stayed here?
Would you recommend this package?
I have a few hours in the morning to kill before my flight to Asia, so I thought it would be a nice oppurtunity to get some snaps of the heavies coming in early on Saturday morning ..
Any tips or advice appreciated.
Thanks

AGOW,
I know the Renaissance Hotel well and I wouldn't say that the view was very good for photography. It's situated on the opposite side of the A4 road to the runways and other buildings on the airport side of the road block a large part of the view.
Generally speaking, you will get a few seconds of fence and aircraft before the aircraft disappears behind a group of buildings. The next time you will see it will be half a mile/mile later as it departs.
I'm not even sure that the roof of the hotel would help much - even if you could get on it!.

Not quite right, luke.
The Renaissance is between the A4 and the Northern Perimeter Road, so rooms on the south side overlook 9L/27R and have an uninterrupted view.

They also have special 'spotters' deals', room and meal and internet access, but I think only over weekends. Apart from the view it's probably the worst of the airport hotels, tired and shabby, and over used.

the renaissance is good for spotting but not photos. Try the Premier Inn or the Ramada both further along the Bath Road. You got to bear in mind the runways switch also, if you want the runway on the opposite side (i;m not a local so it's the one near the hatton cross tube station where the 777 crashed) the jurys is the nearest. If you search LHR you can find out what runway is in use on friday as they normally switch at 1500!
The Premier Inn on the Bath Rd further to the east is a better bet. A few rooms do face the runway but are hard to get as the numbering sequence is hard to follow. The hotel car park at the back is a good spot for landings on 27R (Towards the West). One or two light poles to avoid when taking pics but they do clear the fence line. However, certainly better in the summer when somewhat warmer.
Over to you!

Checked in to my room at the renaissance once, i think it was the Heathrow then to find it was already occupied by a rather passionate couple who were close to fulfilling their dream(or each other). From the look of the uniforms lying about they flew for a living. They didn't seem too bothered as i made my excuses and went to ask for another room!!

I stay there frequently and agree that it is tired and a bit shabby.
The spotter package gives you access to the club lounge which gives a good view of aircraft touching down when 27R is the landing runway. You get to see the first part of the take off roll and the queueing aircraft when 27R is used for take off. Free coffee, soft drinks and nibbles whilst you are there also.
Have not stayed at the other places so can't comment on which is better.

Thank you 1DC
Always wondered who the gentleman was, however the lady in question was expecting the entire flight deck, so you missed the final approach and landing.
Also it is a bit tired and shabby, but most of us are too.
