Large prop plane going into LHR?

About five minutes ago, a large prop plane went overhead Schloss SLF here in sunny downtown Holloway, and then leisurely established itself on a westbound approach to LHR (at least, that's what it very much looked like).

As it isn't sunny at all really but just plain dark, I couldn't see what it was. Anyone know?

(Mrs SLF is just glad I've stopped talking about turbine design and uncontained failures.)

She isnt the only one, ive never seen such a large amount of tosh posted by the clueless as that thread contains, it appears every spotter under the sun has now become a leading authority on gas turbines...

I can't think what it might have been. Do Air Algerie still fly C-130s into Heathrow? But then it wouldn't be coming from the north. Are the freight Electras still around? Otherwise we're down to something like an AN-12..

You could check here: lhr nov 2010 in a day or so when the movements for 5th up up. I don't understand some of the info, but one column certainly has the type and I believe the last but one column is the time.

Somebody is bound to know...

Again?

Kevlarcarl=simonchowder=walterthesofty coming into this thread to belittle people. Get a life you've been banned twice already. Walter how many other spotter threads do you lurk on? I too heard the drone and am curious to know.

I can say with some certainty it wasn't an Electra going into LHR. Maybe transiting overhead, but not shooting an approach.

Perhaps a C130 into Northolt / LHR / similar? any ideas on size / shape / sillhouette?

For any nocturnal spotters, you can always tell an electra at night, as it doesn't have high intensity strobes...

Not an RAF Hercules on a one-off movement perchance?
