Sabiha Gocken

Just had the pleasure of flying out of this fantastic airport, spacious clean and very quiet.
Apart from the Yak42s and Tu154s and UR regd Md80 who flies IL62s here?. An orange/red one was parked at the freight terminal along with a very sad looking A300 freighter which looked like it wasn't going to fly again.

Agreed, it's a lovely airport and puts Ataturk to shame. I've only ever transferred through it and I hear it's a bit of a pain to get to the centre of Istanbul due to the distance but the airport itself is gorgeous.

It's not just the distance, it's the traffic across the bridge. Took me nearly 5 hours to get from Sabiha Gocken to Ataturk not so long ago because of that.

City centre would have been about the same.

The 'cargo configured' IL62 has been sitting there for a couple of years now. I believe it was operated by the Kazakstan outfit Data Air!?

I used this airport (from/to LGW with Easyjet) and found it great however,.....I was there on business with Companies, whom are all based on the Asian side. The taxi took only about 20-25 mins from SG to the Marriott Asia where I was staying. However, I concur, the city traffic is horrendous and the best way to get to the European side is by Ferry from say, Kardicoy, then walk or tram it.

For anyone who needs to ask directions or take a taxi to the airport, the Gökçen part of the name is pronounced in English a bit like "Yurk-chen".
