DL use both LGW and LHR. As mentioned, it's an B767-400 on the LHR-ATL and an A330-300 on the LGW-ATL.

Just out of idle curiosity spotter why dont you simply just ask what aircraft type do delta use on such and such a route rather than gobbley gook

No not at all, just curious as to why people dont refer to aircraft as just that after all thats what they are.. aircraft, it even takes longer to type equipment than aircraft so why bother ??? or does it somehow carry more kudos amongst the spotting fraternity if the term "equipment "is used

It would seem so. Although a slight improvement in punctuation would be welcome.

To hopefully satisfy your curiosity Walterthesofty, published timetables often refer to "equipment" rather than "aircraft type". Where airlines vary the a/c type on a given route you will see this indicated as EQV (equipment varies).

Ah all is now clear , so just because the timetables may refer to aircraft as equipment then its de rigueur to do likewise here

What really, really winds me up is when spotters call them "frames". Maybe they can't spell "aircraft" or "aeroplane".

American crews are prone to using the word "equipment" when giving aircraft type: "We're 747 equipment".

What really, really winds me up is people getting wound up about such trivia.

With:
    you'd think they would have more important things than 'equipment v aircraft' to worry about!

    Get a life!

    What really, really winds me up is people getting wound up about such trivia.

    With:
    •10,000 children dying each day due to malnutrition/lack of clean water;
    tensions in the Middle East fuelling ongoing security concerns;
    financial crisis threatening our livelihood; and
    loss of the cheeseboard in flight-deck refreshments;
    you'd think they would have more important things than 'equipment v aircraft' to worry about!

    Get a life!

    Eckhard
    Then stop wasting effort getting wound up about people getting wound up and do something yourself to end world poverty/find peace in Middle East/sort out financial crisis, etc!

    Touché, Groundloop!

    My comment was slightly 'tongue-in-cheek' at the end of a long day and after a few glasses of wine. I hoped that the addition of the 'cheeseboard' in the list would alert readers to the mischievous nature of my post.

    In fact, the previous posters' comments don't really wind me up at all; I just find it amusing/puzzling how otherwise intelligent people can get so exercised over a choice of words. Don't get me wrong; I'm as keen as anyone else to use the correct terminology when it matters. I just don't think that 'equipment v aircraft type' falls into this category, that's all.

    Good point however about my pontification about 'world issues' when I haven't done anything about them myself.

    Lessons learned:
    Don't post unless 100% sober in future; and
    Other people may not have your sense of humour.

    It's short for airframes and is a deliberate usage as some are airframe spotters and some are reggie spotters. Hence the deliberate usage.

    Perhaps certain people lack the emotional "equipment" to live and let live?

    So when the Police arrest me for 'going equipped', may I assume I've been framed?

    Generally, only if your equipment is visible to others and is causing offense.

    To get back to brs planespotter's original question, Delta currently use all 767-400 at Heathrow. However, I checked the OAG and it appears that there will be one flight a day in the winter timetable to/from Detroit or Minneapolis depending upon day of the week that will be a 767-300. LHR-ATL is wholly 764.

    You can get details at flightstats.
