NCL 75th Anniversary

Hi there,

Having been on the Newcastle Airport website I've noticed something rather interesting planned for the 26th of July.

On the anniversary day itself, 26 July, a number of our airline partners will be marking the occasion by operating aircraft rarely seen at Newcastle, which we hope will appeal to aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike.

Now I've heard rumours that Emirates are sending a 777 but does anybody else have any ideas as to what else we can expect in that day? Should be a good day with it being Sunderland Airshow weekend as well.

Other than standing on the side of the road at the 25 end do we know of any official viewing points.

Great PR exercise - nice 777 and nowhere official to view it from

From what I have been told there will be a public viewing area set up and if the airlines come up with goods I've heard well worth a visit!?!?

It does have promise but does rely on active runway and participating airlines I guess.

Have I not heard (again, a rumour!) that the airport are planning to open the old aero club/ wings building?

I do wish they would do something to that place, walked past yesterday on the way to the flying school and it could do with a nice lick of paint etc, would be such a good source of revenue for them. But then again how long has all this been said now, and how much action has been taken to do something about it.

I'm sure the asbestos in the old aero club building wouldn't go down well - I heard that's why it wasn't open to the public for the airshow last year.

Might be an explanation. Still a shame though, goes back to my point about the airport giving that building a bit of TLC. Could be a gold mine with a bit of decent advertising and management.

Still no news on the 26th?

26th July

Here is what is confirmed so far

BAW1326/7 (LHR-LHR) ETA1110 ETD1230 B747-400
UAE35/6 (DXB-DXB) ETA1205 ETD1335 B777-300ER
KLM957/8 (AMS-AMS) ETA1035 ETD1305 B737-800 (Probable retro-schemed PH-BXA)

Also to this will be Mr Meeson from Jet2's DH Rapide which will open the celebrations (time TBC), and Jet2 B757 G-LSAE has had the 75th Anniversary titles added to the fuselage already.

The Sunderland Airshow also takes places on 24th/25th July, so would guess that some of the participants may remain at NCL on the Monday, possibly including the Red Arrows.

Sounds great already, was half expecting the KLM retro jet to come up. BA sending a jumbo is a nice suprise.

I take it more information will be released closer to the time.

Flew in on the BA 747 this morning. Very nice flight, and seemed pretty full.

I recon there were a 1000 people or so on the perimeter fence. Wish I had booked a ticket on board the 747. Looks like there were many people getting off at NCL.

A nice morning out for the spectators. Typhoon, F16, Saber and others all departed at 10am to start the day off.

Rather boring for an hour or so after the Emirates had landed.

RE: NCL 75th Anniversary

Hi all

I was at the the airport for the 75th anniversary. Took quite a few photos some of which have been uploaded to my webshots account including the 747, 777, klm and some of the aircraft which were still there from the Sunderland Airshow. If anyone is interested the link to the album is below.

Hope you enjoy the photos. Unfortunately you need to be a webshots member and logged in to see them full size.

Regards
Colin
